Here are 5 of the most important ones.
1. Risk Taker
They say "No pain, no gain" and this is certainly true when it comes to business. As an aspiring entrepreneur you have to have the guts to take enormous risk. You have to have the cajones to asses an opportunity and be able to gamble some of your resources in hopes that you get a positive outcome.
So how do you develop this skill?
Build a great work ethic. Bring a diverse group of experts into your circle, who can give you well-informed advice when you need it. Develop a scoring system through which you put all ideas.
2. A Positive Attitude
You need to know that a CEO/ leader should have a generally positive attitude, you should able to identify opportunities even in the worst of times. Barbara Corcoran once said that when the real estate business was tanking, she actually bought more properties and hired more real estate agents. This is the kind of thinking you should have. You must always find ways to turn a bad situation into a positive one. Developing strategies to combat every conceivable scenarios is a must.
How to develop this skill.
Try to get rid of your personal insecurities and do your best not to go into business to soothe your ego. Be humble and open to the possibility that maybe you are not perfect. You make mistakes. Don't be embarrassed by your missteps, but rather look at them as learning opportunities.
2. Keep your emotions in check
At the end of the day, business should never be about you. It should be about serving your customers and your community and also making money for you and your investors. You should always do whats best for the business.
You should not be so emotionally tied to the business to the point where you cannot see past your own feelings. I encourage you to view the business as a house you are building and not your baby. Your employees are members of your team and you are the coach. They are not your servants or cheer leaders.
It helps if you have other hobbies outside of work. Try not to react immediately to things. Try to take responsibility for the failings of your business.
