3 Eco Friendly Cooking Fuels

Firewood has been the most common type of cooking fuel since the ancient days. This fuel has been considered over other types of cooking fuel because it’s fast and best during the cold seasons. In Africa, this is the most readily available fuel. The living standards of some people here can hardly afford other available cooking fuels in the market.

However, firewood has its advantages and disadvantages. African governments should ensure constant and cheap supply of other types of cooking fuels found in the market.

Electricity

Africa has great rivers with big power dams. Electricity should be available to all at an affordable consumption cost. Availability of power will lower use of firewood and save our environment. Deforestation has affected our environment as a result of firewood harvesting. The rainfalls have decreased resulting in a low inflow of water in the dams. Reforestation should be encouraged to enhance better rainfalls in the future and more power supply enough for all.

Gas

Cooking gas is common all over the world. We have countries where it is compulsory to use this type of fuel. African governments’ should negotiate with fuel producing countries to import gas at a lower cost. Gas is much cheaper in cost and time compared to wood. However, the cost is not low enough for everyone to afford. Price control on cooking gas may be implemented to save humankind from illnesses resulting from firewood. The regulations if applied they will save the environment too.

Bio Gas

Africans are farmers. They have large herds of cattle, but the animals waste is not productive enough. Cattle waste is the source of biogas if well harvested and the supply is constant. You will only need to take good care of your bio digester to get your supply.

Conclusion

The government has responsibility for its citizens. If the environment is polluted, then humankind and animals are endangered. Africa is currently experiencing hard drought spells due to deforestation. An alternative type of cooking fuel will save the economy and reduce the current droughts.

Human health and life will be saved if there is an alternative cooking fuel. Civic education to farmers on producing their biogas is important. We can save our environment and still have fuel.
