The days move...the nights drift. A typical 20 year old in the East African country of Kenya is yet to find his purpose in life. He looks to the North: some distant uncle learnt that he did his KCSE examinations and is awaiting to go to the University."You look like you can be a lawyer. We need lawyers in this family, "He tells the 20 year old guy. He then faces to the south : His father faces and speaks, "Medicine is good for you. You must be a doctor. Six years of your life is worth the wait. You'll get a job and have lots of money to sustain you and your family in future. I'm telling you this as your father. "He thinks about it. Hmm! The thought of money makes him smile. But he then faces to the East: His mother is seated on a stool with eyes fixed towards him, "My son, engineering suits you best. You will become that great engineer, you know constructing huge structures and all, be filthy rich and help this family eventually." Mother knows best, he thinks. He suddenly hears a voice towards the West: his sister grabs him by the shoulders,"Forget what they have told you, aviation is the best of the best. You will not die poor my brother. I heard that once you land a job, a six digit salary awaits in your bank account. Be smart. Be smart." Those words hit him straight to his core.
But he now faces his heart and conscious. He recalled how he gave eloquent speeches until he once got a standing ovation. He remembered how he wrote a play 'just for fun ' and shockingly won as the best play. The violin:one musical instrument that had been on his mind since he was a child. Him playing it would mean the world to him. What he wanted was totally contrary to what he was being suggested to do. The young Kenyan man. Either to follow his dream and risk condemnation by his family members, or follow what he is being suggested and watch his dream and passion fleet away like the wind.
